SOUND HAMPSHIRE: LET’S WALK & LISTEN DAY

28th June 2024
14:00—16:30

Winchester School of Art

HELLO! MAY WE BECOME FAB PALS?

Do you:

Live, work or play in Winchester, Southampton or other parts of Hampshire, and have a hidden story to share, or a bold dream to inspire us?

Belong to a group/community making and leading change?

Run a local business and can’t wait to find imaginative, artful ways to share resources and support others around you?

Care about using education, and the arts & culture as a force for good, to co-create fabulous futures together?

JOIN US on the 28th June (14:00-16:30) for a relaxed afternoon on Winchester School of Art Campus (SO23 8DL) for local friends, students, University staff and artists to meet, make mates, and make music together! We could walk together, make music, chat, and have some coffee and cakes. We wish to get to know our neighbours and find ways to become better ones. Following on from Sound Winchester led by Winnall Rock School which relates mental health and music, we also want to explore wellbeing – of ourselves, and our place/planet – through the arts.

ACTION: Please bring along a small object that makes a sound.

WHO AM I / WHO ARE WE:

My name is Kai Syng Tan. I am an artist and I work at the University of Southampton.

I work with the staff and students of Social Practices Lab and Winchester School of Art Exchange (WSA Exchange).

Staff joining us include the multi-talented Winchester resident Dr Kwame Philips and UK-Brazilian game design and social change specialist Dr Vanissa Wanick.

WHAT IS FAB PALS?

FAB PALS is a new project I am leading, working with and for minoritized community groups that make positive social change in Winchester and Hampshire, my new adopted home.

It is about building new partnerships, friends or ‘pals’ to work together to redefine creative leadership, learn local stories, and centre love in the conversation.

Currently, I am visiting and volunteering with local community groups to learn more about social activities in the area and work together to share stories of great local work to more people.

ACCESSING OUR ACTIVITIES:

The venue is wheelchair accessible. We will be providing signages and a quiet space.

We will be conducting video, audio and photographic documentation and also will chat with you. We will seek your informed consent. If you’d prefer not to be recorded, please let us know.

For the activity on 28th June, we will be able to cover your transportation/expenses with a small bursary if you are from an under-represented community and/or require support.
